SFS ECO CLUB – HARITIMA

ECO CLUB - HARITIMA

frtk

Dear Fransalians,

The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it. Each and every one of us can make changes in the way we live our lives and become a part of the solution. Let us all become “Brave Green Warriors” and tread the green path to preserve the globe’s green cover. Let us join Eco-Club “Haritima” the green initiative of S.F.S. It works to create a green ambience and undertakes a number of Eco friendly activities. “Vanmahotsav” is an annual activity undertaken by the Eco-Club where the saplings are planted, adopted and also distributed free of cost. Our school was awarded the Green Delhi Award for promoting green ambience and creating mass environmental awareness.

It is time to start a green crusade. Let each one of us become a conservationist. Let us do our bit by being frugal consumers, vigilant protectors and quit being mere spectators. Let us, on occasions, gift saplings to our near and dear ones instead of expensive items that do not contribute to the environment we live in.

We, at SFS, have been protecting and conserving our Mother Nature. We believe that of all the legacies we can leave behind, a rich environment is the most valuable one.

OUR COMMON HOME

We are fortunate to be living on this beautiful and unique planet called “Earth” with fresh air, a large variety of flora and fauna and life giving water. We are duty bound to use and not abuse this precious gift we have received from God our Creator

Imposing changes or altering the environment may benefit us in short run but it leads to imbalance of nature leading to diseases and destruction. Today’s fast moving world of technology we have already done enough of harm to our environment and to one another due to our lack of knowledge, insensitivity and stubbornness. “The planet earth is rotating spaceship with limited resources on board. We must conserve our life- support system to help us survive.”- (Richard B. Fuller) what kind of world do we want to leave to those who come after us, to children who are now growing up? What is the purpose of our life in this world? What is the goal of our work and all our efforts? What need does the earth have of us? It is a high time that we reflect and answer these questions and learns to care for our common home or we may become homeless one day. It is the urgent need of the hour to care of our mother earth. Let each one of us become conservationist- use some of our time and money to promote “green projects.’ Let us reform our habits before forests turn to deserts, rivers to drains and flowers to dust.

An Environmentalist with a Vision

Dear Friend Volunteers,

In 1997 when Delhi was groping in the dark trying to combat the environmental issues and looking for redressal St. Francis Janakpuri, New Delhi launched its Eco-Club Haritima the pioneer club in Delhi to create green ambiance, promote the ethos of conservation and sensitize the students on the five R’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Replenish and Re-harness.

Green Delhi, Van Mahotsav (Plantation and distribution of free saplings), Green Rally’s, Clean City, Swachh Bharat Abhyan, Class, School, City, Yamuna Cleanliness Drives, Personal Hygiene, Community Hygiene (developing sensitivity quotients), NukkadNataks against open defecation for slum dwellers, Campaigns against leaf burning, Vermi-compost Project, Composting to create manure for school lawns, Rain Water Harvesting, Save Water (every drop is precious activities), Sanitation Drives, Hand Washing – Sanitation Activities, Anti-Fire Cracker Campaign (NukkadNataks signature campaigns), Eco-Diwali, Eco-Holi, sale and use of Eco-Friendly natural colors – ‘KheloHoli Naturally’, Saving Energy (switching off fans and lights when not in use), Recycling Paper, Waste Segregation Project, Creating Wealth from Waste, Organizing an array of other Eco-friendly activities as staging NukkadNataks by the SFS NukkadNatak Group, Jingles by the Indian Singing Group, Eco-debates, Eco-quizzes, Slogan Writing, Poster Making, Eco-web designing, Hosting inter school Eco-club meets and activities, Administering Swachhta pledge are only some of the projects/ initiatives/ activities undertaken by SFS

SFS has been the lead Eco-club school working under the aegis of the Department of Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi and Government of India. One of our prime projects is Creating Wealth from Waste – OUR WASTE OUR RESPONSIBILITY where students of each class segregate the waste into three bin bags, the Green for biodegradable waste, Blue for non-biodegradable waste and Red for paper waste. The bio-degradable waste is composted and vermi-composted to make manure for school lawns. The non-biodegradable waste is sent for recycling. The paper waste is recycled in the SFS recycling unit.

SFS Eco-Club Haritima has sensitized its students as Eco-friendly, pro-active conservation crusaders and prepared squads of Eco-Warriors for the nation and the world at large.

Let’s all remember and ponder:
The Earth is not dying, it is being killed those who are killing it have a specific name and address here’s an opportunity for all of us philanthrops, Eco-lovers, sensitized citizens of our nation and the world at large to erase our name and address from this list.

An Earth warrior

Our environment, the world in which we live and work, is a mirror of our attitudes and expectations. We are all gifted with a beautiful mother nature but its condition is deteriorating day by day. Every year we are hearing about many diseases like ZIKA, EBOLA etc which are taking many lives all over the world.

We know that we are an integral part of the environment we live in and the solution to many environmental problems lies in our attitude towards environment. The best way to bring about a change in this attitude in society is through children.

Being a part of the SFS Eco Club “Haritima”, we motivate the students to segregate biodegradable, non-biodegradable and paper waste, organise tree plantation drive every year to beautify the road side area with plants, use green rally as a tool for creating awareness among the public on environmental conservation through messages and slogans, encourage the students to celebrate festivals like Diwali, Holi in an eco-friendly manner, save electricity by switching off the tube-lights and fans when not in use, reduce water wastage ,encourage the usage of paper and jute bags, make children understand the importance of environment and its problem areas, conduct an action based activity like cleanliness drives within the school campus, make new products by reusing old things in best out of ways.

“Never think, I will give when I am rich; Just give what you can, while you can”

We can save our environment in a very easy manner with the little steps taken by every person on the earth. So, let us join our hands together and save our planet earth by making it green and clean.

ECO-CLUB GLIMPSE

OBJECTIVE

Faith in God.’ ‘Concern for the welfare of others,’ and where education is concerned ‘Education of the Human Heart.’ These have formed the foundation upon which the Fransalian Mission has set its goals.Out of this came ‘knowledge, service, charity,’ which is not only the motto of this school but the firm goals it has set for itself.

For the students who enter the portals of St. Francis de Sales School, knowledge attained must develop a humane attitude in them. The skills acquired must not only spell success to them, but also lead them to offer their service for the betterment of the society. In this, they do charity to their fellow beings, leading to a communion with God.

The objective of the Education imparted must be such that it helps a child to know himself, to discover his talent, to accept his limitations and be creative in his own individual way.

This process must help a child to develop the ability to relate and reach out to others.

Keeping the spirit of the Indian Constitution in mind, the school aims to develop a secular attitude with a multicultural outlook and respect for all religions.
